What is an extended cab vs regular cab truck and which should you get?
It feels like no matter where you look, pickup trucks are everywhere. Long gone are the days where pickups were vehicles made for work and utility. Modern trucks can be optioned to be as opulent as the most iconic names in luxury. There is a truck out there for you, regardless of whether you want to cruise in style or require a workhorse. Once you decide if you must have 4-Wheel Drive (or if RWD will do), the next big decision is to decide which cab size is best for you.
As you might guess, a regular cab pickup has only one row of seats with a small amount of legroom and storage space. A regular cab pickup was once the only configuration available on pickups. In many regular cab pickups, the seatbacks practically touch the back side of the cab. This model is the more “work” version of a pickup and usually comes with manual windows and locks. A regular cab is made for work, not to haul your friends and family around.
As you might expect, an Extended Cab (can also be called a Double Cab truck) is basically a Regular Cab with extra space behind the front seating. When they were first introduced, extended cab pickup trucks were sold as 2-doors and had small jump seats behind the front row. These days they may be called a Double Cab pickup, these trucks now feature a second row of small doors for easy access to the cargo area. Even though there are 2 rows of seating, an Extended Cab pickup would not be the ideal option for long trips, even though it can haul more passengers.
While not as clear as the earlier models, a Crew Cab truck features four normal-size doors and room to hold, well, your whole ‘crew.’ Crew Cab pickup trucks are built to carry more stuff and-or people. For some folk, these pickup trucks have become the family vehicle. A Crew Cab truck’s more powerful engines and larger size are not seen in the sedan world while still being able to offer the passenger legroom and luxuries that families need.
